September 17th witnessed a positively bulging Kelly Theatre in the National College of Ireland for our autumn networking evening.  Hosted by Dr.Phillip Matthews, the event proved to be yet another winner with a very lively audience.

As with our summer event hosted by RTE, we kicked off with a bit of ‘speed networking’ to raise energy levels and get members mingling quickly around the room.

Opening up our Q&A sessions to discuss the theme of the evening, ‘Developing the Self; Developing the Team’, Phillip introduced Hazel Chu, Director of Corporate and Trade Communications with Diageo.

Winners of multiple ‘Great Places To Work’ awards, Guinness producer Diageo has just opened its €169 million state-of-the-art brewery at St James’s Gate in Dublin. Hazel, fresh from overseeing that launch, shared some secrets to the company’s success and discussed the winning partnership of the Guinness brand with the Pro-12 competition.

Fiona Coghlan and Sophie Spence celebrate at the final whistle 5/8/2014Following some more lively networking and a quick word from Warren Healy of MyClubFinances.com, the event sponsor, Sophie Spence and Sharon Lynch of Ireland Women’s XV took to the stage for a cracking panel discussion with the business and sports performance coach Arlene Egan and referee Dudley Phillips*.

Dermot Rigley, Commercial Manager, RTE Sport, chaired the session, which featured great insights into what makes the individual and the team ‘tick’ to create outstanding outcomes.

Sophie raised more than a giggle around the room with tales of the pre-game team prior to their historic defeat of New Zealand in the World Cup. Sorry folks, if you want to know what we heard, you’ll have to come to our future events ;-).

As with all our events, we couldn’t make these evenings happen without our sponsors, in this case Dr.Phillip Matthews and all of his team in NCI and Warren Healy of MyClubFinances.com. Also critical are the efforts of the volunteers that make these events happen – if you’d like to find out what’s involved in being part of the Dublin team, contact Jill Barrett, Dublin Organiser: theheadcoachireland@gmail.com / 087-9837881

*Sincere thanks to Dudley Phillips for standing in for Ciaran Fitzgerald who had to withdraw from this event at short notice.
