There have been many milestones during the evolution of the Rugby Business Network and our first global event, taking place at the Hong Kong Sevens, might just prove to be the one that makes me most proud.
The RBN was built on the work of a network of volunteers, all keen to mobilise the goodwill they knew existed in the sport they loved. I have loved being a part of that movement (the RBN now has paid staff, but Colm has never been one of them – Editor) and I hope everyone involved has taken great heart from seeing the group hit 25,000 members, as it did this week.
We now have dozens of volunteer committees around the world, consisting of rugby-mad business people and passionate rugby folk with business aspirations. We communicate regularly by phone and email, but there are many hugely supportive individuals who I have yet to meet in person and the fact some of them will be heading to Hong Kong makes it unmissable.
Hong Kong is one of the world’s great cities, a key business hub, central to huge markets in the Far East and a great halfway-house for Europeans and Antipodeans. If they alone are not good enough reasons to join us, then rugby’s only bucket-list weekend event should seal the deal for you.
We’ll have a networking event at a Marriott hotel, with some great rugby names lined-up to speak. The speakers and members alike will be chatting away in our hospitality box and generally enjoying the craic throughout the tournament. There will be several other social events, planned and otherwise, so the weekend will be as productive as it will be fun for anyone seeking international strategic business contacts with whom they share a passion.
All members are welcome to join us for what will be an absolutely fantastic few days. Most of those attending will have to fly to Hong Kong, ensuring a very high calibre of attendee. I know some companies are also looking at really maximising value by using the event to host key clients or as an incentive for senior staff.
Drop a line to any of us if you’d like to hear more about the weekend or simply let us know that you’ll be joining us. Centred around a truly great sporting event, it’s the rarest of business opportunities and one that could be epic on several levels.
I can’t wait to meet those who make the trip as I know it will live long in the memory.
